Noem was born on 30 November 1971, in Watertown, South Dakota, United States attended Hamlin High School where she graduated in 1990. She won the South Dakota Snow Queen title. Noem credited the experience with helping her polish her public speaking and promotional skills. After graduating from, Hamlin High School, she joined Northern State University.

At the age of 22, she left college to help her family’s ranch after her father was killed in a farm machinery accident. She added a hunting lodge as well as restaurant property over the years. After the sad story of her father’s accident and death, she was forced not to attend college full time.

She, therefore, decided to take classes at the Watertown campus of Mount Marty College and at South Dakota State University. She was elected to Congress and continued with her education.

Rise To Fame

Noem entered political life by serving on nearby councils and sheets. In 2006, she won a seat in the South Dakota House of Representatives speaking to the Sixth District (involving portions of Beadle, Clark, Codington, Hamlin, and Kingsbury regions, however excluding Watertown). In 2006, she won with 39% of the vote. In the year 2008, she was re-elected to a second term with a majority of 41%.

Noem served for a long time, from 2007 to 2010, and was an Assistant Majority Leader during her last year. She was noted for being an extreme and learned state lawmaker.
