Rena began her career as a producer for the WKBN-TV station in 1996. She spent a little over 1 year working at the station before leaving in early 1997. After leaving WKBN-TV, Rena joined KFXB-TV and worked as a reporter for a few months before leaving in 1998. Rena joined WKOW-TV the same month that she left KFXB-TV. For around the next 4 years, she worked as a reporter and news anchor, covering various local and national breaking news bulletins. Rena was based in Madison, Wisconsin. She spent some time working in Dubuque, Iowa at FOX 40 before joining the WITI-TV team as a news anchor and reporter in Milwaukee.
