Hogan in Parramatta, a suburb in Greater Western Sydney. He joined both Primary and High School at Parramatta Marist High School. Hogan, later moved to Granville in Western Sydney at a young age and served as a rigger on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

He had observed with his Harbour Bridge workmates that the program’s entertainment value relied significantly on the judges ridiculing and belittling the performers, and suggested the judges deserved similar treatment.
- In 1973, Hogan produced and wrote his own comedy sketch program ‘The Paul Hogan Show’ in which he played characters with Cornell and Delvene Delaney. The show was aired on Channel Seven and was popular in Australia and South Africa. It earned him a TV Week Logie Award for ‘Best New Talent’ in 1973. In 1975, the show was screened on Channel Nine until the end of 1984.
- He starred in a remake of the 1963 film Flipper in 1996. This was a family-friendly movie about a dolphin.
