Mitchell was born on November 19, 1976, in Harvey, Illinois, and grew up singing in church. He was raised in a Christian home and began singing in the church choir at a young age. At the age of 13, he became assistant music director of St. Mark Baptist Church in Chicago.
In 1996, at the age of 20, Mitchell became the Minister of Music under Bishop Larry D. Trotter at Sweet Holy Spirit Church in Chicago, where he would go on to serve for the next ten years.
Mitchell graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois. He then earned a degree in psychology from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois.
