He died on 15th October 2018 of cancer. He is the founder and Chairman of Vulcan Inc. and also the co-founder of Microsoft with Bill Gates.

Allen schooled at Lakeside School, a private school in Seattle, where he became a friend to Bill Gates, two years younger, with whom he shared an enthusiasm for computers. The two friends used Lakeside’s Teletype terminal to develop their programming skills on several time-sharing computer systems.

They even used the laboratory of the Computer Science Department of the University of Washington, doing personal research and computer programming; on at least one occasion in 1971 they were banned from the access of laboratory for abusing their privileges there.

In 1982 Paul was diagnosed with Stage 1-A Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which was successfully treated through radiation therapy and bone marrow transplant. On September 30 2019 Monday the Seattle Seahawks announced that the team will induct late owner Paul Allen into the franchise’s Ring of Honor on October 3, 2019 Thursday night. Paul will become the 12th member of the Ring of Honor.

The induction ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:50, prior to kickoff between the Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams. Pete Carroll urged fans to arrive early and make sure they’re in their seats prior to showtime.

“This is a special occasion celebrating Paul and all that he stood for,” Carroll said to kick off his presser on Monday. “There’s going to be a program for him before the game starts so we encourage the 12s to get there early and enjoy it and have some fun.

I hear Jody (Allen) is raising the flag, which is great. I can’t wait to see that. It should be a big event, big night. It should be a lot of fun for everybody.” The tribute will include the unveiling of Paul’s name on the suite level fascia inside the stadium.

Members of the Ring of Honor, or representatives, will participate in the ceremony. To honor her late brother, Seahawks Chair Jody Allen will raise the 12 Flag. At halftime, the Mercer Island Marching Band will present a Paul Allen Tribute.

Allen was a longtime Mercer Island resident. The 280-member band will play a special medley including one of Allen’s favorite Jimi Hendrix tunes and a song from his band, Paul Allen and the Underthinkers.

“The Seahawks and the 12s are part of what makes Seattle such an exciting city and fantastic community, and the community and the fans were at the forefront of Paul’s mind when he purchased the Seahawks,” said Seahawks chair Jody Allen.

“This Ring of Honor induction celebrates Paul’s legacy and the impact he made on not only the Seahawks organization, but the entire Pacific Northwest. It is fitting that he is the 12th member of the Ring of Honor. He was the proudest 12 of all.”

Paul will join a distinguished group, which includes Steve Largent, Jim Zorn, Dave Brown, Pete Gross, Curt Warner, Jacob Green, Kenny Easley, Dave Krieg, Chuck Knox, Cortez Kennedy and Walter Jones.
