Prince Poppycock Career
His debut public performance was when he was 11 years old at Kennedy Center in the Children’s Choir of the Washington National Opera. During his childhood years, he sang regularly and was a member of various children’s choirs. By the time he was a teenager, he started writing and recording his own music.
Following relocating to Los Angeles, he wrote, produced, and released his solo debut album, Worldview, which is now accessible on iTunes. During his time in LA, he gained fame for his role in the smash musical “The Beastly Bombing,” a winner of the LA Weekly Theater Award for Best Musical. He was cast in two short off-Broadway runs in NYC. Quale was also the writer of a civil rights anthem named Rise Up and Shout.
In 2006 John invented the character of Prince Poppycock: a roguish operatic dandy with a persona and collection that drew on all John’s varied influences as a performer and a musician. Poppycock has been the curtain raise for bands such as The Dresden Dolls and The Sounds.
Poppycock has also sung at lavish special events including New York’s Dances of Vice. He was also the opener for performance art legend Ann Magnuson at downtown LA’s prestigious Redcat Theater.
As a singer and songwriter, John performs on both Poppycock and his solo projects. He has partnered with songwriter and keyboardist Kristian Hoffman on the Poppycock debut album.

In 2010, John auditioned and rose up the top four finalists on NBC’s reality television talent show series America’s Got Talent. He was named “one of the most unusual contestants in the show’s history”. They labeled him “a male Lady Gaga” and “the Adam Lambert of America’s Got Talent“.
On September 15, 2010, Finale, John opened the Finale Show with a duet with one of his preferred celebrities, singer and disco superstar Donna Summer.
