Raphael Saadiq Good Man
Loosely set in the early 1970s, Good Man opens in the wake of a devastating loss, with our hero’s tormented lady, needing to move on by any means necessary even if that means framing him for a heinous beating.
I wrote Good Man around the time I was watching The Wire, so I had Chad Coleman in mind for the lead from the beginning, though I never expected him to actually accept the part.
But we sent it to his people and he really responded to the character and story and that was it he was in. The cool thing about Chad is he is so committed to his craft and works so hard to understand his character on deeper and deeper levels.
Saadiq plays the narrator and inner life force of our hero, and the Good Man’s girl is played by the incredible Yaya DeCosta. Like Chad, Yaya brought 110% to every frame and never complained. Ultimately, this film is an exploration into lust and longing, humility, and social climbing the context of a couple falling apart and finding their way back together.
Raphael Saadiq Get Involved
“Get Involved” is a song by Saadiq and Q-Tip, released on March 23, 1999, from the soundtrack The PJs: Music from & Inspired by the Hit Television Series. Produced by the duo, the song contains elements of “I’ll Always Love My Mama” by The Intruders.

Raphael Saadiq Instant Vintage
Instant Vintage is the 2002 debut album by American R&B singer and record producer Saadiq. It was his first full-length solo album after spending much of his post-Tony! Toni! Toné! career as a session player and producer. The record was a critical success but underperformed commercially, leading to Saadiq’s departure from Universal Records.
Raphael Saadiq Stone Rollin’
Stone Rollin’ is the fourth studio album by American R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Saadiq. It was released on March 25, 2011, by Columbia Records. Inspired by the loud, raw quality of performing in concert, Saadiq worked with recording engineer and long-time collaborator Charles Brungardt to produce a grittier, more aggressive sound than on his previous records.
Most of the instruments played on the album were performed by Saadiq. With the help of arranger Paul Riser and engineer Gerry Brown, the singer also incorporated string and orchestral arrangements to the songs. Stone Rollin‘ expands on the traditional soul music style of Saadiq’s 2008 album The Way I See It by exploring rhythm and blues, rock, funk, and the blues.
A widespread critical success, the record was deemed by some reviewers as Saadiq’s best work while being noted for its stylistic breadth, groove-based compositions, varied subject matter, and incorporation of the Mellotron keyboard. It also became the singer’s highest-charting album in the United States, reaching number 14 on the Billboard 200. He supported the album with a concert tour spanning from March to August 2011.

Raphael Saadiq Ray-Ray
Ray Ray is the second studio album by American R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Saadiq. It was released on October 5, 2004, by his record label, Pookie Entertainment. After being dropped from Universal Records, Saadiq formed the label and recorded the album.
Saadiq pursued a 1970s-inspired musical direction that was looser than his 2002 debut album, Instant Vintage, and produced Ray Ray with Michael Angelo, Jake and the Phatman, and Kelvin Wooten.
Titled after Saadiq’s childhood nickname, Ray Ray features funky, groove-oriented songs and Saadiq’s characteristic fusion of programmed beats, strings, neo-soul melodies, and live guitar. They are arranged in a song cycle and touch on lighthearted romantic themes and socially conscious messages.
The album debuted at number 86 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart but fell off the next week. It received generally positive reviews from music critics. Although some were ambivalent towards its loose blaxploitation concept and Saadiq’s songwriting, critics praised the album’s production quality and vintage musical approach. It is currently out of print.
