Richard Wolff is an American Marxist Economist born and brought up in Youngstown, Ohio, United States. He is best known for his work on economic methodology and class analysis. Wolff serves as a professor emeritus of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a visiting professor in the graduate program in international affairs at the New School. Also, Wolff has taught economics at City University of New York, University of Utah, University of Paris I (Sorbonne), Yale University, and The Brecht Forum in New York City.

Born on April 1, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio, United States, Wolff attended Harvard University in 1963 and acquired a BA magna cum laude in history. He moved on to Stanford, where he earned an MA in economics in 1964 to study with Paul A. Baran.

He moved to Yale University after Baran’s premature death from a heart attack in 1964, where he obtained a Ph.D. in economics in 1969, an MA in history in 1967, AND an MA in economics in 1966.
