Kindiki, Kandara MP Alice Muthoni Wahome, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Rigathi Gachagua Political Career
After the death of his brother-former governor of Nyeri Nderitu Gachagua, he wanted to run for Nyeri gubernatorial race, but he later abandoned it for the Mathira parliamentary seat which he won. Gachagua is understood for a straightforward, bold, and occasionally abrasive style of politics.
His time as a lawmaker was described as advocating issues that centered mainly on the needs of Mt Kenya locals; usually, he addressed issues by publicly putting the authority figures directed to solve them to the job. H.E Dr. William Ruto would later cite this as one of the causes Gachagua was selected as his running mate saying, “Gachagua is a very passionate leader, a people’s person. He speaks about ordinary people…”
Gachagua assumed Keriako Tobiko as the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Forestry in 2017. The Cabinet Secretary had submitted the alarm considering the over-exploitation of upstream water resources in the Mt. Kenya Region and directed the Kenya Forest Service to destroy illegal intakes. Gachagua claimed that many of the intakes destroyed were legal and that this had occasioned a water crisis for thousands of people.
He said, “I am calling for his [Tobiko’s] sacking on the basis of incompetence; he is not able to appraise the situation. He did not do due diligence on the legality of the intakes and he flubbed in an analysis of the humanitarian crisis arising from the situation.”
The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Simon Chelugui, was drawn into the fray, meeting with Gachagua and other Mt Kenya legislators over the matter. He promised to have all intakes with the necessary documentation restored.
Rigathi Gachagua Nyeri county Affairs
During Nderitu Gachagua’s long absence owing to ill health, Rigathi Gachagua appeared to call the shots in Nyeri county.
Although the Constitution stipulates that Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathai should act as governor in the absence of his boss, Rigathi was often accused of meddling in the affairs of the county and acting as the de facto deputy when his brother was away.
In parliamentary sessions, some MCAs accused him of taking advantage of Wamathai’s laid-back demeanor, a claim the Gachagu as vehemently denied.
