Rod earned a full football scholarship at Purdue University, driven by his passion for electrical engineering. Excelling as a cornerback, kick returner, running back, and wide receiver, he became an All-American defensive back in 1985 and 1986, also earning recognition as a returner in 1986.

In his final game, Woodson’s impressive performance led Purdue to victory over Indiana, leaving him with numerous records and accolades. He departed Purdue with 13 individual records, including 11 career interceptions. Career

Rod was a defensive back drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1987. He faced an initial challenge as the team didn’t expect him to be available at the 10th overall pick. Despite a prolonged contract holdout, he showcased his versatility as a track athlete, excelling in hurdles.

In 1987, Woodson signed a four-year, $1.80 million contract after missing training camp. His rookie season saw impactful moments, including his first interception returned for a touchdown. In 1988, he became a starting cornerback, displaying his defensive skills with four interceptions and his first kick return touchdown.

In 1989, Woodson continued as a starting cornerback, contributing to the team’s wildcard berth. He displayed remarkable performances, including an 84-yard kickoff return touchdown. The 1990 season marked his Pro Bowl selection, and in 1993, he became the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

In 1997, Woodson joined the San Francisco 49ers, making notable interceptions and contributing to their playoff run. Subsequently, he moved to the Baltimore Ravens in 1998, showcasing his defensive prowess and becoming a free safety. In 2000, he earned his 10th Pro Bowl selection.

Woodson’s career continued with the Oakland Raiders from 2002, where he set records for interceptions returned for touchdowns.
