Adsit was born on November 26, 1965, in Northbrook, Illinois, the son of Genevieve LaVern(mother) and Andrew Scott Adsit (father), a real estate attorney. Scott schooled at Glenbrook North High School, where he concluded being “a bit of a class clown,” and went to Indiana’s DePauw University for one semester. He afterward attended Columbia College Chicago, where acting teacher Sheldon Patinkin inspired him to join the city’s renowned improv troupe, The Second City.

Adsit’s rise to fame began in the early 1990s, when he began performing with the Second City comedy troupe in Chicago. He quickly became a member of the Second City’s main stage cast, and he appeared in several of the troupe’s sketch comedy shows. In 1995, he was cast in the sketch comedy show Mr. Show with Bob and David, which aired on HBO for two seasons.
In 1999, Adsit moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television.
