In 1978, the group evolved into punk rock, like the Dickies , the Dead Boys, and the Sex Pistols. The group then changes its name, to adopt that of Bad Brains.

The group’s name comes from the book Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude, by Napoleon Hill. The first concert takes place in the Hudson 1 cellar.
In 1978, the group evolved into punk rock, like the Dickies , the Dead Boys, and the Sex Pistols. The group then changes its name, to adopt that of Bad Brains, inspired by the song Bad Brain, from the fourth album, Road to Ruin, by The Ramones 1. They are one of the first all- African-American punk bands and one of the pioneers of hardcore punk.
That same year, the group recorded Black Dots, their first album. In 1979, Sid McCray was replaced as a singer by Paul “ HRBrain ”Hudson, brother of drummer Earl Hudson, and the group evolves into reggae 4, 5. Subsequently, Sid Mc Cray continued to accompany the group during their tours.
