She began her acting career at the age of 11, appearing in a local production of The Wizard of Oz. She soon caught the attention of Hollywood scouts and began appearing in television shows such as The Pinky Lee Show and Annette.
In 1959, Shore landed her breakout role as Betsy Garth on The Virginian. The show was a huge success and Shore quickly became a star. She remained with the show for three seasons and won a Golden Globe Award for Best New Star – Female in 1963.
