Richard Blade Biography

Richard Blade is a prominent British-American Los Angeles-based radio, film, and television personality who hails from Torquay, England. He is well known for his radio programs that feature new wave and famous music from the 1980s.

Blade attended Oxford University where he graduated in 1974, and started working as a club DJ known as “The Young Dick Sheppard” in Europe and the United Kingdom. In 1976, he moved to the United States where he continued his work as a club DJ, and operated as a party DJ for superstars in Los Angeles.

Blade started his radio career in 1980, originally working for stations in Long Beach, Bakersfield, and San Luis Obispo before joining KROQ-FM in 1982. He took a new name from the 1982 science fiction film, Blade Runner and within a few months of operating in Los Angeles, Blade became the #1 Arbitron-rated radio personality on the West Coast.
