The complaint stated that on March 13, 2016, the day before Montgomery’s death, Norman flew from Los Angeles to St Louis, while Ellis posted on Instagram that she was in St Louis and would return to her home in Memphis, Tennessee, the following day. Two phones, believed to have belonged to Norman and Ellis, were activated on the day of Montgomery’s murder, and Ellis is accused of contacting Norman an hour before the teenager’s death to share his location.
Norman is accused of attempting to collect on the life insurance policy he took out on his nephew on March 21, but he was denied. The complaint reads: ‘Despite several additional efforts to collect on the policy since Montgomery’s murder, Foresters has yet to pay out on the policy due to Norman’s failure to provide several requested documents.’
