Tim was arrested on federal charges on Tuesday, 18th August 2020 in relation to the death of his 18-year-old nephew Andre Montgomery in 2016. According to a complaint, ‘there exists probable cause to believe that James Timothy Norman conspired with Terica Ellis and unidentified accomplices to use a facility of interstate commerce, namely, a cellular telephone, to commit a murder-for-hire in exchange for United States currency’. Authorities allege that in 2014, Norman, 41, took out multiple life insurance policies on Montgomery amounting to $450,000 (£339,000), listing himself as the sole beneficiary.
The complaint stated that on March 13, 2016, the day before Montgomery’s death, Norman flew from Los Angeles to St Louis, while Ellis posted on Instagram that she was in St Louis and would return to her home in Memphis, Tennessee, the following day. Two phones, believed to have belonged to Norman and Ellis, were activated on the day of Montgomery’s murder, and Ellis is accused of contacting Norman an hour before the teenager’s death to share his location.
Norman is accused of attempting to collect on the life insurance policy he took out on his nephew on March 21, but he was denied. The complaint reads: ‘Despite several additional efforts to collect on the policy since Montgomery’s murder, Foresters has yet to pay out on the policy due to Norman’s failure to provide several requested documents.’
