Mike Bullard ‘The Bullard Show

It was a Canadian late-night talk show on Global from November 24, 2003, to March 11, 2004, airing every weeknight at 12:05 AM. The show was recorded at the Global Theatre in Toronto, Ontario. Its executive producers were David Asper, from November to December, and Dave Rosen from December onwards.

Mike Bullard Radio

Bullard launched an uncensored morning satellite radio show in October 2006, on XM Canada’s Laugh Attack channel, but the program lasted only five months before its cancellation. He returned to TV to host HouseCapades, a real estate series depicting the lighter side of selling one’s home, in 2006. In August 2009, Bullard became the host of The Mike Show on Talk820 Radio (CHAM-AM) in Hamilton, Ontario.

From 2010 to 2016, Bullard hosted Beyond the Mic with Mike on weekdays at noon on Newstalk 1010 in Toronto. He returned to broadcasting in October 2018 on Sauga at 960 AM in Mississauga as host with Lawrence Morganstern of the afternoon drive-time show, The Getaway.

The show ceased production in late January 2019. His evening drive show was, however, canceled in July 2010 when CHAM switched to a country music format. Bullard then hosted Beyond the Mic with Mike on weekdays from 2010 to 2016, at the apex on Newstalk 1010 in Toronto.

In his youth, Bullard worked briefly as a police officer with Peel Regional Police but resigned when he was denied permission to perform in comedy clubs. Upon Resignation, he returned to Bell Canada where he had worked before where he was ultimately promoted to associate director of corporate investigation. During this time he worked part-time as a stand-up comic.

Bullard became the host of Open Mike in 1997. It was considered the first successful show in Canada in the Genre of late-night talk-variety shows. The show won a Gemini Award and aired nightly for six seasons on The Comedy Network and the CTV Television Network. In 2003, Bullard became the host of The Mike Show in the same timeslot after he was hired away by Global in a multi-year deal.

However, due to poor ratings compared to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart which CTV aired against Bullard’s new show, it was canceled on March 12, 2004, after 13 weeks. A disagreement ensued when Bullard accused executives at his old network of not supporting the show after leaving CTV. In retaliation, CTV described Bullard as having “burned his bridges” with CTV and the Comedy Network.

Mike Bullard Chatelaine

Bullard was involved in a legal tussle with Rogers Media and Chatelaine senior writer Sarah Boesveld upon whom he served a statement of claim for defamation. The suit sought $5 million in punitive and/or aggravated damages and $1 million in general damages from the defendants. This followed the publication by Rogers of an interview of Cynthia Mulligan by Chatelaine pertaining to her harassment case against Bullard.

According to Bullard’s lawyer, Joseph Villeneuve, “The position of Bullard in his case is one of the most egregious, he’s suffered harm. He’s lost his job, he’s having a difficult time finding alternative employment.”
