Branstad was born on November 17, 1946, in Leland, Iowa, United States to Norwegian-American Lutheran farmers who lived in Leland, Iowa. Branstad earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and attained a Juris Doctor degree from Drake University Law School.

Steps Down

It was announced in September 2020 that Terry would be stepping down as United States Ambassador to China after more than three years in Beijing. A source said that he was to move from Beijing following the November US Presidential election. This came amid increasing tensions between the US and China on several fronts.
