Sue Simmons is a former American news anchor. She is well known for her work as the lead female anchor on WNBC in New York City from 1980 to June 2012.
Upon the expiry of Simmons’s agreement with WNBC in June 2012, WNBC reported that it would not renew it with her final broadcast coming on June 15, 2012. This particular decision by the WNBC did not sit well with Simmons’s fanciers who lobbied for her agreement renewal on social media via pages such as Save Sue Simmons, on Facebook.

Simmons was born on May 27, 1942, in New York City, New York, United States. She grew up in the Manhattan neighborhood of Greenwich Village. Simmons’s father was John Simmons, a famous jazz bassist. His contemporaries included Nat King Cole, Art Tatum, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, and Lena Horne.
In 1961, Simmons graduated from Julia Richman High School and chose to work instead of going on to university.

Simmons rose to fame after high school. Though she chose to work instead of going on to university, she still makes $175 a week as a typist. In 1972, she took an announcer’s course at night. A job that would attain her four Emmys and make her a household name.
Within a year, Simmons had landed a position as a consumer-action reporter on WTNH-TV, in New Haven, Conn. She repositioned in 1974 to Baltimore and WBAL, where she met news director Ron Kershaw. Simmons was later employed as the lead female anchor on WNBC in New York City from 1980 to June 2012.
