Wayne Shorter Biography
Wayne Shorter is an American jazz saxophonist and composer born in Newark, New Jersey. He came to the limelight in the late 1950s as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. He later became a primary composer for Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. In the 1960s, Shorter joined Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet. He later formed co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report. In 2017, Wayne was awarded the Polar Music Prize.

Shorter’s first Blue Note album (of 11 in total recorded from 1964 to 1970) was Night Dreamer, recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s studio in 1964 with Lee Morgan (trumpet), McCoy Tyner (piano), Reggie Workman (bass), and Elvin Jones (drums). In 1964, they recorded two more albums: JuJu and Speak No Evil.
Speak No Evil is the sixth album that Wayne released. It was released in June 1966 by Blue Note Records. The cover photo is of Shorter’s first wife, Teruko (Irene) Nakagami, whom he met in 1961.
