Early Life and Education
Young attended the University of Alabama as an engineering major and halfway joined Mississippi College to answer the call of the ministry. He later enrolled at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Carolina.

Edwin Young rose to the limelight for his evangelism work. He is the senior pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Houston, Texas. Until 1978, when he moved to Second Baptist Houston, he was a pastor in North and South Carolina. Under his management, the church rose from an average 500-weekend attendance in 1978 to over 24,000.
