James Ingram Biography
James Ingram (James Edward Ingram) was a two-time Grammy-winning American singer, songwriter, record producer and instrumentalist born on 11th February 1952 in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He died of brain cancer on 29th January 2019.
James began his professional singing career in the 1970s when he joined the group, Revelation Funk and at one point he even played for Ray Charles’ band. He was also one of the featured soloists for all-star choir that recorded the song; We Are the World’ in 1985. He sang parts between Kenny Rogers, Tina Turner, and Ray Charles.
James recorded several chart-toppers in the ’80s including his number 1 duet with Patti Austin, “Baby Come to Me”, as well as “Somewhere Out There” with Linda Ronstadt, “100 Ways” and “Just Once.”
James worked closely with Quincy Jones over the years he co-wrote Michael Jackson’s smash hit, “P.Y.T.” from the “Thriller” album with Quincy.
James won two Grammy’s over his career for his duet with Michael McDonald “Yah Mo B There” and another for “100 Ways.”
