James Marsters Biography

James Marsters is an American actor, musician and voice actor born on August 20, 1962 in Greenville, California, U.S. He is best known for his role as English vampire Spike in The WB series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel.

Since then, he played the alien super villain Brainiac on the Superman-inspired series Small ville, Captain John Hart on Torch-wood and terrorist Barnabas Greeley in Syfy’s Caprica. He appeared in the supporting role in the film P.S. I Love You, as Victor Hesse in the Hawaii Five-0 reboot, Victor Stein in the Marvel Comics series Runaways, and as the voice of Zamasu in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Super.

James Marsters attended Grace M. Davis High School where he acted many plays and music. He later went to Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California where he graduated with a degree in bachelor of Conservatory Arts. In 1982 he moved to New York City to attend the Juilliard School, but left the program after two years.

James Marsters moved to Chicago, where he started his first professional acting role as Ferdinand in The Tempest at the Goodman Theatre in 1987. On March 24, 2015, Jim Butcher announced a new version of Ghost Story audiobook that is being released effective April 21, 2015 with Marsters returning as narrator in response to fan demands.

James Marsters has played in bands, and solo in bars in several clubs for many years where he enjoyed several successful sell-out solo gigs at Los Angeles clubs before forming a band. A new solo album “Civilized Man” produced by Chris Rhyne and Andrew Rosenthal was released on April 15, 2005. New solo songs not included on the album but sung at live solo concerts include “Birth of the Blues”, “Finer than Gold”, “Louise”, and “London City”.

During his October 2005 mini-tour of the UK, he has introduced other new songs to his sets: “Button Down Vandals”, “Up On Me”, and “All That She Wanted”. These songs were available only as part of his recently released Words and Music DVD, which has his abridged version of Macbeth as well as a full-length solo music performance. All his songs reflects his new blues music and folk sound. His songs was well unrecorded work which was released on his second solo album, and launched it in Los Angeles and Cardiff in October and November 2007 respectively.
