Vlad was born Vladislav Lyubovny on June 28, 1973, in Kyiv, Ukraine. At the age of 5, he moved to the United States with his family, initially living in Springfield, Massachusetts before his family settled down in San Mateo, California. Vlad attended the University of California Berkeley, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering.

Vlad was originally making hip-hop beats, though later stopped when he discovered he would not be successful at it. He started DJing after testing with a friend’s equipment. Vlad directed the American Gangster television series, and the documentary movie Ghostride the Whip.
In December 2016, Vlad interviewed Soulja Boy, who clarified events surrounding a home attack and shooting in 2008. The interrogation went viral, with many contesting the validity of Soulja Boy’s claims. Considerable people imitated Soulja Boy’s interview online, including comedians DC Young Fly and Mike Epps, and rapper Joe Budden, in what was ironically called the “Soulja Boy Challenge”.
