Anthony grew up in the United States, where he pursued his education and developed a keen interest in acting. His musical journey began at the age of six with piano lessons, and by the time he was sixteen, he was already performing with notable artists like Lamont Dozier and others from the Motown scene. Career

From 1977 to 1983, Marinelli’s Synner Productions operated from a converted pool house, later moving to a Hollywood studio with advanced equipment. In the period of 1983 to 1993, Marinelli and Brian Banks collaborated at Sonar Productions, contributing to notable projects like WarGames and The Color Purple.

In 1993, Marinelli continued solo under the name Music Forever, earning awards for TV commercials and working on acclaimed films like Leaving Las Vegas. He co-founded Levels Audio Post in 1998, a successful venture working on shows like American Idol and MTV’s Viva La Bam. Marinelli’s influence extended to Brian Riordan, who later acquired Marinelli’s interest in Levels Audio Post in 2004.

Marinelli’s fascination with analog synthesizers began in his teens. Introduced by his piano instructor to Brian Banks, the two formed a renowned synthesizer duo, even opening for the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1980. Known as The Synners, Marinelli’s group performed classical works and expanded their reach through live radio broadcasts.

Teaming up with Arthur B. Rubinstein, Marinelli, and Banks created one of the first digitally synthesized scores for Blue Thunder (1983). Collaborating as The Beepers with Cynthia Morrow, they contributed songs to the WarGames (1983) soundtrack, including “Video Fever” and “Long Line Leading To Men.” Their expertise in synthesizer technology caught the film industry’s attention, with their innovative approach influencing the score for The Color Purple (1985).

Polaroids 

In 1987, Marinelli and Banks pioneered the use of orchestral mockups, or “polaroids,” in film scoring, revolutionizing the industry’s workflow. This concept, utilizing synthesizers to simulate orchestral sounds before live recording, was groundbreaking. Despite initial skepticism and concerns about job displacement, their proposal for the synthesist’s scale, paying by the hour with unlimited overdubs, was accepted by the musician’s union in 1985. This innovation streamlined the recording process and mitigated the need for larger orchestral sections.

Film Career

Marinelli studied under and gained early success with patrons such as Quincy Jones, Arthur B. Rubinstein, Giorgio Moroder, and Jack Nitzsche. Credits include synthesizer programming for Michael Jackson’s Thriller, pre-production synthesized orchestra recording for The Color Purple, collaborations on Blue Thunder, WarGames, Cat People, Over the Top, Let it Ride, Streets of Gold, Starman, and Stand By Me.
