Phil Lesh Career

Lesh is a bassist, songwriter, and composer who is well known as a founding member of the Grateful Dead, one of the most significant bands in the history of rock music. Lesh grew up with a love of classical music and jazz, but his musical career truly took off when he joined the Grateful Dead in 1965.

As the bassist and one of the primary vocalists in the Grateful Dead, Lesh was instrumental in shaping the band’s distinctive sound, which blended elements of rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and jazz to create a musical style that was entirely it’s own.

He was also known for his innovative approach to bass playing, incorporating complex, virtuosic solos into the Grateful Dead’s music and pushing the boundaries of what was considered possible on the instrument.

Lesh’s career with the Grateful Dead traversed three decades, from the mid-1960s until the band’s disbandment in 1995 following the death of Jerry Garcia, the group’s lead guitarist, and primary songwriter. At that time, the Grateful Dead became one of the most popular and influential bands in the world, with a massive and dedicated fanbase known as “Deadheads.”

During the years since the Grateful Dead disbanded, Lesh has continued to perform and record music, both as a solo artist and with various iterations of the band, including the Lesh and Friends lineup. He has also cooperated with a wide range of other musicians, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Trey Anastasio of Phish.

Phil Lesh and Friends

Lesh and Friends is a musical project and touring band led by Lesh, the former bassist, and vocalist of the Grateful Dead. Since the Grateful Dead disbanded in 1995, Lesh has continued to perform and record music, and Phil and Friends is one of the many ways that he has chosen to do so.

The lineup of Lesh and Friends varies from tour to tour and album to album, but the band typically features a rotating cast of musicians, including some of Lesh’s former Grateful Dead bandmates as well as other notable musicians from the rock, jazz, and jam band scenes. The band’s music often features interpretations of Grateful Dead classics as well as original compositions and covers of songs by other artists.

Phil Lesh Setlist

Lesh setlist refers to the list of songs that Phil and Friends perform in a concert. The setlist can vary greatly from show to show, and often features a mix of Grateful Dead classics, original compositions, and covers of songs by other artists.

As a touring band, Lesh and Friends is known for its improvisational approach to live performance, and its setlists are often fluid and flexible, allowing for spontaneous changes and impromptu jam sessions. This means that the band’s setlists are often unique to each performance, and fans never know exactly what they will hear at a Lesh and Friends show.

Phil Lesh Warfield

Warfield Theatre is a historic concert venue in San Francisco, California that has been a popular destination for live music since the early 20th century. It is particularly associated with the Grateful Dead, who performed there often in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Lesh, the bass guitarist, and vocalist for the Grateful Dead has a strong association with the Warfield and has served there multiple times both as a member of the Grateful Dead and as a solo artist.

The Warfield has a capability of about 2,250 people and is known for its exceptional acoustics and personal atmosphere, making it a famous venue for both musicians and fans alike

Phil Lesh Grateful Dead

Lesh is a bass guitarist and vocalist widely known for his work as a founding member of the Grateful Dead, one of the most significant and iconic bands in the history of rock music. He entered the Grateful Dead in 1965 and stayed with the group until its disbandment in 1995.

Lesh’s creative bass playing, which frequently involved complex and melodic counterpoint to the band’s guitar and drum parts, was a key component of the Grateful Dead’s sound and a major influence on the development of the jam band genre.

In addition to his work with the Grateful Dead, Lesh has had a long and illustrious career as a solo artist, bandleader, and collaborator, and resumes to be an active and revered figure in the world of music.

Kyle Cook Career

Cook entered Matchbox Twenty on lead guitar right as the band’s other members transitioned from their earlier work as Tabitha’s Secret, in 1995. He has stayed a regular member of the band to this day. Besides playing guitar, he furthermore sings backing vocals. He played piano on the song “Hand Me Down” from the album More Than You Think You Are and sings lead vocals on the track “The Way” from North.

Cook disclosed his exit from Matchbox Twenty in an Instagram post from April 9, 2016, citing “deterioration of communication, disagreements on when, where and how we tour and a general breakdown of democracy within the group.”

Nevertheless, less than a year subsequently on March 27, 2017, Cook disclosed Matchbox Twenty’s North American co-headlining summer tour with Counting Crows, and that his side project Rivers and Rust would be the opening act. About Cook’s status in the band, Matchbox Twenty member Paul Doucette answered, “Kyle is back!” in reply to a fan’s question on Twitter.

After unleashing their third album, More Than You Think You Are, in 2002, and consuming the next year touring the globe, the members of Matchbox Twenty began to work on separate musical projects. Guitarist Kyle Cook reconnected with his former bandmates—drummer Brett Borges and bassist John Kibler.

The three had met him during high school in rural Indiana. Beneath the name Downpour, the group had played proms and parties but had split once graduation came around. After Cook became part of Matchbox Twenty, the trio kept in touch and recorded demos during Cook’s time off from traveling. Embracing the new Left, they added guitarist and singer-songwriter, Eamon Ryland.

Cook contributed to Mick Jagger’s song “Visions of Paradise” on the English rocker’s 2001 record Goddess in the Doorway, and he played guitar on Rob Thomas’ 2006 single “…Something to Be”.He co-authored, performed, and produced several songs on John Waite’s 2011 album Rough & Tumble, and he co-wrote Love and Theft’s 2013 single “If You Ever Get Lonely”. He released his debut solo album, Wolves, on October 12, 2018.
