At age nine, he started competing in kart racing, and by age twelve, he had won more than 200 races in go-karts and Quarter Midgets. Gordon shortly tried waterskiing before returning to racing. At 13, he became inquisitive in sprint car racing, and he contested in his first sprint car events in Florida.

Gordon rose to fame during the 1997 season, when he became the youngest driver to win the first to win the Southern 500, NASCAR’s oldest race, three times in a row and the sport’s premier event, the Daytona 500. These achievements helped him seize his second NASCAR championship.
