Podell’s career began as an intern at Fox 2 News in Southfield and later at WDIV, where she became a traffic reporter in 2007 and advanced to general assignments. During live-fire coverage in Lapeer three years ago, she dropped an F-bomb on the air inadvertently.

She joined the Local 4 News Team in December 2007. In 2009, she covered a major story viz related to the attempted bombing of a plane bound for Detroit.

In 2012, Podell covered the shooting of West Bloomfield police officer Patrick O’Rourke. In 2015, she served as grand marshal for Cruisin’ Gratiot’s classic war cruise in Eastpoint and was an honorary chairwoman for ArtParty.

Lauren was slammed for her taboo remark to a co-worker, ‘I am tired of reporting on these n****rs killing each other in Detroit.’ Sam Riddle, a local political analyst, was offended by Podell’s remark & he took to Twitter a voice opinion.

During a live-fire coverage a few years ago, she uttered the F-bomb, but inadvertently. Many people thought that the station over-reacted on the issue. Podell’s Twitter account, @local4lauren had been deactivated as well as her bio page from WDIV’s site removed.

Lauren Podell Resign

Podell recently resigned from WDIC after she was reported to have said, “I’m tired of reporting on these n**gers killing each other in Detroit.” But she is already being considered for a position at FOX News “I have been following Lauren’s work for some years,” said acting FOX News CEO Rupert Murdoch. “I’m sure she’ll fit right in here.”

Podell’s comments are similar to ones made by FOX New staffers. FOX commentator Bill O’Reilly referred to Mexicans as wetbacks, and former employee John Gibson once told the white people to have more babies. Lauren Podell resigned from the station following allegations she uttered a racial slur off the air in a conversation with a coworker.

Her departure was confirmed by the station management, which declined further comment. The incident was confirmed in an e-mail sent by WDIV Vice President Marla Drutz to a Detroit minister, who had demanded that the station apologizes to Detroiters.

Rev. W.J. Rideout pastor of All God’s People Church led a protest outside WDIV’s studios on West Lafayette downtown Detroit, where about three dozen people joined him and called for boycotting the station. Among those who protested were political activist Sam Riddle, the former chief of staff to former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, who both served in prison after being convicted in a bribery scheme.

Podell did not respond to a voicemail left on her cell phone. In WDIV’s e-mail sent to Rideout, Drutz said she was “very sorry that this happened.” She then said that the incident took place six months ago, and that “it was investigated swiftly, thoroughly and appropriate action was taken.”

Although Drutz did not mention Podell’s name, Podell resigned, saying that Jamie Walters, WDIV’s Creative Services & Programming director. The station had no further comment, Walters said in an e-mail. Drutz did not respond to a voicemail request to comment. The station removed Podell’s bio from its website.
