Lucian Grainge Universal Music

Grainge became the chairman of the UK division of the Universal Music Group, and afterward in 2005 of Universal Music Group International. He operated in this position until 2010. On 1 January 2011 he became CEO of Universal Music Group, and later on chairman on 9 March 2011, succeeding Doug Morris. In his first year as chairman & CEO of Universal, the company obtained EMI’s Recorded Music operations.

Grainge claimed that selling to Universal was the greatest way to enhance EMI, for the usefulness of the whole industry. UMG afterward endeavored to restore former EMI labels including Capitol Records and Virgin Records. Remarking on the EMI acquisition, BuzzFeed remarked that “Grainge will go down as the master architect of what is likely to be the last big deal in the music business”.

House

Grainge and his wife Caroline moved to Los Angeles in 2010. For the first couple of years, they leased a posh house in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles. Finally, in November 2012, he reportedly bought a giant mansion in the Pacific Palisades area of LA.
