Growing up he was a star basketball guard at Cerritos High School where he was teammates with Ben Howland, as well as played basketball at Whittier College. Lodge won the Celebrity 3-Point Shootout during NBA All-Star Weekend, in 2004 and 2005.
Apart from basketball, Lodge played considerable minor parts in the entertainment industry for a few years, most notably regular guest host for the program Talk Soup, on E! Entertainment Television. Furthermore, Lodge hosted his half-hour weekly show for the Sci-Fi Channel, entitled S.F. Vortex. Also, he appeared in the Tony Scott movie The Fan and Not of this Earth (1988).
