Stefan Dennis Neighbours
He began playing the role of cold-hearted and ruthless businessman Paul Robinson in the soap opera Neighbours from its first episode from March 1985 to the present day. In 1993, he departed Neighbours, but returned in 2004 and has played Paul ever since.
Stefan Dennis Wentworth
Neighbors star Stefan Dennis took a break from the show last year in order to film a recurring guest role in Aussie prison drama Wentworth.
The actor, who is known for his role as Paul Robinson, found himself on the other side of the law to his scheming soap character when he played a high-priced QC in the series.
Stefan took time out from his busy Ramsay Street schedule to film at Neighbours’ prison set alongside actress Sigrid Thornton, who played his incarcerated client. Speaking about the role, Stefan said: “It was great fun and while it was a different position to be in, there is definitely an arrogance about the Wentworth character I was used to.”
However, Stefan admitted that one of the biggest challenges of the part was remembering not to limp – something he has had to feign on Neighbours ever since Paul lost his leg over 20 years ago.
“It’s so automatic for me now to limp when I go on set,” he said. “I had to consciously remind myself not to do it. I’m sure the cast and crew were thinking, ‘What the hell is he doing?'”
Neighbors star Stefan Dennis hints show bosses regret Sonya Rebecchi’s death
Neighbors star Stefan Dennis has suggested that there may be some regrets over killing off Sonya Rebecchi.
Eve Morey, who played Sonya for nine years, left earlier this year as her character passed away in a heartbreaking cancer storyline. But it wasn’t her choice to leave, and the decision to axe Sonya proved controversial at the time.
Last month, Morey earned two huge Logie Awards nominations – for Most Popular Actress and the prestigious Gold Logie.
Dennis – who plays Paul Robinson – said that the show bosses may be looking back at the decision differently with hindsight.
“I think in hindsight, they’re now going, ‘Oops!’,” he said. “There is possibly some regret among the powers that be with regard to the decision, especially as Eve is shortlisted for the Gold Logie, which is a public vote.
“It was a big shock to the cast and took us a long time to get over – myself, Ryan Moloney, Alan Fletcher, and Jackie Woodburne marched to the office and said, ‘You can’t do this’. They explained it was out of their hands.”
But Dennis added: “But then, Neighbours is an evolving show and it will move on.
“Eve will not be forgotten, and the lovely thing is, she’s an acting coach on the show now, so we still get to see her and she’s doing what she’s very good at, which is mentoring people.”
Morey recently said that she may not return to acting, despite her Logie nominations.
“My thought was moving away from acting and getting more into coaching. And I wanted to do stuff around intimacy co-ordination and things like that,” she commented.
