Career
Swaleh Mdoe’s professional journey started when he joined Nation Media Group in 1999 where worked as a news anchor until 2001. He thereafter moved to Standard Media Group-owned KTN. While at KTN, he supervised the Kiswahili news team, edited copies, and also presented news live on air. After six years at KTN, he transferred to Royal Media Services’ Citizen TV in March 2007 where he has been for close to 17 years.
However, after joining Citizen TV, Mdoe’s charismatic on-screen presence and ability to connect with his audience made him a favorite among Kenyan households. It was at Citizen TV, an aid of Royal Media Services, that Mdoe really made his mark.
As a news anchor, he also brought a unique perspective to the stories he covered, combining empathy and professionalism to deliver news that echoed with viewers. Mdoe is known for his part”Tafakari ya Babu” where he shares stories and deep Swahili lessons.

He was suspended together with Shisia Wasilwa, Yusuf Ali, Mwanahamisi Hamadi, and Kimeli Arap Kimei after findings were made, that the journalists received money from a prominent Kenyan politician in order to ‘kill’ a story about him even after the story had already run in the highlights.
The politician is also said to have been involved in a blowup in the 2015 Kajiado by-election, where he was rude and abused by some journalists covering the event.
