Joanne Minardi is the wife of Rick Pitino, a former Louisville coach who on March 14th, 2020, was announced as the new Head Coach for the Iona Gaels men’s basketball team. She is the co-founder of the Daniel Pitino Foundation.
Joanne Minardi was born in 1953, in the United States of America. Details about Minardi’s date of birth are not known; she likes to keep her matters away from the public eye, hence making it difficult to know her exact date of birth. Joanne will be 67 years old in 2020.
Minardi appears to be quite tall in stature if her photos, relative to her surroundings, are anything to go by. However, details regarding her actual height and other body measurements are currently not publicly available. We are keeping tabs and will update this information once it is out.
After doing our research, details about her parents are not known to the public. She grew up being spoiled by her father as the only girl, with two older brothers. She showed an interest in cooking from a young age, often testing her creations out on her father and

Joanne Minardi and Rick Pitino first met each other in the early 1970s when they were both students at St. Dominic’s High School in Oyster Bay, Long Island, reports Newsday. Joanne married her high school sweetheart, Richard Andrew Pitino, in 1976
Their entire family often vacations in Saratoga, New York, according to ESPN. After Pitino took Louisville all the way to the National Championship, Minardi told Yahoo Sports “I’m so proud of him. Just so proud…I knew he could do this again. He has the capacity to nurture and love so much.”
The couple has five living children: Michael, Christopher, Richard Jr. (now the head coach at Minnesota), Ryan and Jacqueline. Another son, Daniel, died in 1987 from congenital heart failure at the age of six months. Rick and Joanne established the Daniel Pitino Foundation (along with a Daniel Pitino shelter in Owensboro, Kentucky) in his memory, which has raised millions of dollars for children in need.
On the website for the organization, Minardi penned a beautiful poem to her son entitled “Daniel”:

On August 11th, 2009, Pitino admitted to having engaged in sexual relations with Karen Cunagin Sypher, the wife of Louisville equipment manager Tim Sypher on August 1st, 2003 in Porcini, a Louisville restaurant. Several weeks later, Cunagin told Pitino that she was pregnant and wanted to have an abortion, but she did not have health insurance. Pitino paid her $3,000 for an abortion.
On April 18th, 2009, Pitino announced that he was the target of an extortion attempt. On April 24th, Karen Cunagin Sypher was arraigned and charged in US District Court with extortion and lying to federal agents. Minardi decided to stand by him, and the two stood together in court in 2009.
On August 6th, 2010, a federal district court found Cunagin guilty of extortion and lying to federal agents, carrying a maximum penalty of 26 years in prison. She was eventually sentenced to 87 months in prison and was released to a halfway house in January 2017. After her conviction, Cunagin hired new attorneys and accused the judge, prosecutors, her former attorneys, and Pitino of taking part in a conspiracy to ensure she was found guilty, though she later expressed “exceptional remorse and contrition regarding the commission of her offenses.
