In 2015, as Nicondra was waiting to give birth to her son, a routine test led her to a life-changing diagnosis. She was ready for the gestational diabetes screening, but not the outcome. She did not know what blood sugar numbers meant and what was good and what was bad. She saw the gestational diabetes needs to be scheduled for education and treatment. It usually goes away right after birth.

She was forced to go on a diet and had to learn how to check her blood sugar. While pregnant the scheduled eating, special diet, and herself shots were easy. A day after her son Gage was born, her blood sugar read normal but that didn’t last. She got a call after a follow-up test. Even on the strict diet, her blood sugars soared. She recovered later.
