Jake Whittenberg Biography

Jake Whittenberg is an American anchor and reporter who is working for KING 5 serving as the morning anchor and co-anchor with Mimi Jung. He has been working for the station since joining in February 2010.

Since he started at KING, he has covered all kinds of stories from Seattle to Cuba and back, from Eastern Washington to Pearl Harbor, and several cities in between. Jake tried to be a trailblazer in Seattle by starting a VLOG and creating more YouTube content. It has a fun way to tell a story and his videos have been viewed millions of times!

Prior to starting at KING, he was a reporter/anchor at WSYX/WTTE in Columbus, Ohio, and KTVQ in Billings, Montana. He considers himself a proud Montanan, but he was born in Southern Illinois to the parents of a newspaper publisher and reporter.

But news has always been in his blood. Some of Jake’s fondest memories as a kid were with his’s dad in the newsroom during election night coverage. “I love the buzz of a newsroom!” He has been humbled to win seven regional Emmy Awards, Associated Press Broadcaster of the Year, and several other writing and reporting accolades, such as being part of a team that won an Edward R. Murrow Award. He is also a former appointee to the Montana Film and Television advisory council appointed directly by the governor.

Whittenberg entered KING 5 News as the North Bureau Chief in March 2010. Jake is happy to return home to the Northwest where he paid much of his life in 2005, Jake was the only Reporter from Montana to travel to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina made landfall. From there Jake moved to Columbus, Ohio where he worked as a reporter with WSYX/WTTE.

He was right in the thick of things in the historic 2008 Presidential Election. In 2014, Jake spent two weeks in communities affected by the devastating landslide in Oso, Washington, and is consistently known for being right in the thick of things during any major story in Western Washington.

Jake is heavily engaged in social media and online reporting for up-to-the-minute stories too. During his career, Jake has won several Emmy Awards and an Edward R Murrow Award for his writing and Breaking News Coverage.
