He is also vastly recognized for his portrayal role of Cedric Fatani in Wild at Heart. Furthermore, Thapelo played Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom as Elias Motsoaledi in 2013. In the film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Thapelo portrayed Elias Motsoaledi. Elias was a South African anti-apartheid activist. He is also one of the eight men sentenced to life imprisonment at the Rivonia Trial in 1963. Furthermore, Motsoaledi was a lifelong member of the South African Communist Party and the ANC. However, Elias was Detained during the 1960 State of Emergency and was imprisoned for four months. After being released, he went underground and worked for Umkhonto we Sizwe by joining it in 1962. Nonetheless, he was detained at Robben Island for 26 years and he was released from prison on 14 October 1989 together with five others. Afterward, Elias died on 9 May 1994, a day before Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the President of South Africa.
