    Donna McCall was a 10-year-old with a crush on Patrick, who played boy werewolf Eddie Munster in the mid-60s sitcom “The Munsters.” In her letter, she asked Patrick how tall he was because girls made gum wrapper chains long enough to match their boyfriends ‘ height at the time.

    The young actor responded to her delight, including his height: 5 feet, 4 inches. However, the wrapper chain was not completed like many childhood projects. Decades passed.

    But then an online article about a man who holds the world record for making a 12-mile-long gum wrapper chain triggered Ms. McCall’s memory of her preteen idol. She found an email address for Patrick, and a correspondence began.

    Ms. McCall, now 65, who was divorced and living in West Chester 30 miles outside Philadelphia, sent a photo from her cheerleading days, Patrick, 67, said. She also sent pictures on her “bucket list” of herself doing activities, from scuba diving and trapeze lessons to racing car driving, he said.

    “I was very intrigued by that,” said Patrick. “She’s single, she’s gorgeous, she’s in the country’s most beautiful part, and she loves to do adventurous things. I felt I had to meet this girl.”

    Patrick was spotted as a kid by a talent agent when he was out for a photoshoot. He immediately started getting offers for different brands in commercial advertisements. Within a few months, he had roles on television and made his debut in 1961 with a small role in the series’ The Detectives.’ His next appearance came as’ Billy Davis’ in the movie’ The Two Little Bears.’

    Over the next few years, he made guest appearances on a number of TV shows such as Ben Casey,” Alcoa Premiere,” The Untouchables,” General Hospital,” Death Valley Days,’ and’ My Favorite Martian.’ He received the role of’ Greg Howard’ in the comedy series’ The Real McCoys’ in 1963.

    In the penultimate season of the show, Patrick appeared in seven episodes. He also appeared as’ Gordon Dearing / Elmore Crocker’ in the comedy-drama series’ My Three Sons.’ He was chosen in 1964 for a role that would later define his career.

    Patrick was picked in the television series’ The Munsters’ for the role of’ Eddie Munster,’ a werewolf and the only child of the lead characters Herman and Lily Munster.
