Eggold was born on August 10, 1984, in Lakewood, California, USA. He grew up in a family of artists, as his mother Karen Benik was a painter and his father James Frederick Eggold was a musician.
Eggold attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Orange County, California. He was interested in music and theater from a young age and performed in school plays and musicals. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Southern California’s (USC) Thornton School of Music, where he studied theater arts.

Eggold began his career in the entertainment industry as a writer and director after graduating from USC, He wrote and directed several short films, including “Unbelievable!!!,” which starred a large ensemble cast that included Snoop Dogg, Gilbert Gottfried, and Michael Madsen.
Eggold made his acting debut in 2006 with a small role in the independent film “Con: The Corruption of Shawn Helm.” He then landed guest roles on several television series, including “Veronica Mars,” “Brothers & Sisters,” and “The Young and the Restless.”
In 2008, Eggold landed his breakthrough role as Ryan Matthews on the CW teen drama series “90210.” He appeared in the show for four seasons and became a fan favorite. He also directed several episodes of the show.
After “90210,” Eggold appeared in several independent films, including “Scent of a Woman” and “Lucky Them.” In 2013, he landed a recurring role on the hit NBC drama series “The Blacklist,” playing Tom Keen, the husband of the lead character Elizabeth Keen. The role catapulted Eggold to mainstream success and he became a household name.
