Williams claims that during his amateur career, which he claims began at the age of nine, he won 44 of 49 contests and received numerous honors in the United Kingdom and Europe. “I won seven Welsh titles at all age categories, including the Senior ABAs in 2011 when I was only 18 years old.
In the 75KG final, I defeated Warren Sinden, who is now a professional, by a large margin.” Williams made his pro debut as a light-middleweight in 2011. He won every round against the more experienced Ryan Clark at the age of 18 and went on to win the vacant Commonwealth light-middleweight title in November 2014 with a second-round knockout victory against Michael Lomax.
He added the vacant British national title the following year, stopping Kris Carslaw in the second round of their fight at Manchester Arena. He defended both titles by defeating a previously unbeaten Gary Corcoran in an 11th-round stoppage at the Ice Arena Wales on July 16, 2016 in what has been termed as a grueling grudge battle.
On April 8, 2017, in the Manchester Arena, Williams was controversially defeated by former WBO light-middleweight world champion Liam Smith.
Smith was ineligible to inherit the interim WBO light-middleweight world title (owned by Canelo lvarez, who is moving to a higher weight and is expected to renounce the title) due to improper weight for the bout.
Williams unsuccessfully challenged undefeated WBO middleweight champion, Demetrius Andrade, for his world title on April 17, 2021, losing a unanimous decision with scores of 118–109, 118–109, and 116–111.
