Shaddix is one of Papa Roach’s original members. In 1993, he formed the band with Dave Buckner, bassist Will James, and guitarist Ben Luther. Luther was replaced by current guitarist Jerry Horton, and Will James was replaced by Tobin Esperance after his departure in 1996. Tony Palermo took over Dave Buckner’s role in 2007, leaving Jacoby as the band’s only original member.
Shaddix’s step-grandfather, Howard William Roatch, was known as “Papa Roach” and was the inspiration for the band’s name. Following a diagnosis of an unspecified form of advanced-stage cancer, Howard committed suicide in 2006. In his honor, the song “Roses on My Grave” was written.
