Brian Casey is the present President of Colgate University. Casey is the one-time President of DePauw University. He graduated from the Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, New Jersey. He subsequently earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy and economics from the University of Notre Dame, where he was requested to join Phi Beta Kappa and was likewise a member of the varsity swim team.

Early Life and Education

Casey was born and raised in New Jersey. He attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a B.A. in philosophy and economics, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated summa cum laude, receiving the Economics Award for his class. After Notre Dame, Casey attended Stanford Law School, where he graduated with honors in 1988. He then practiced law for several years at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City.

In 1995, Casey returned to academia to pursue a Ph.D. in American history from Harvard University. He completed his Ph.D. in 2000 and then served as an assistant provost at Brown University from 2000 to 2005. In 2005, Casey returned to Harvard as an associate dean for academic affairs in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He served in this role until 2008 when he was named the 17th president of DePauw University.
