Jann Carl Biography
Jann Carl is an American television host, reporter, journalist, co-host and part owner of the syndicated TV show Small Town Big Deal. She is also a founding partner of Yellville Productions, an independent television production company.
Jann graduated from Moline (Illinois) High School in 1978 and later joined University of Missouri School of Journalism, graduating in 1982 with a degree in broadcast journalism. She served as the Grand Marshall for the 90th University of Missouri homecoming.

She is also well-known for her 14 years at Entertainment Tonight. Carl is nationally respected for her interviews with influential newsmakers. She has interviewed some famous people including Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Diane Sawyer, Tom Hanks, and Barack and Michelle Obama.
She began as a news reporter at WLS in Chicago and later moved to Los Angeles, where she reported for KABC and hosted KABC’s “Eye on L.A.” magazine show.
Carl was the co-anchor with the late Los Angeles broadcast legend Hal Fishman at KTLA-TV, throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. Later, she became an executive producer of the show Sold! for the History Channel.
Carl has appeared on America’s Next Top Model and Candid Camera. She has co-hosted the Emmy pre-show, the “Oscar Countdown” Academy Award show, the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon and the Tournament of Roses Parade on CBS and HGTV. She has been associated with Muscular Dystrophy Association for more than 25 years.
Carl has also served as the MC for the “Model Citizen” fashion shows. These shows benefit the MU Thompson center for Autisim and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
In November 2016, she was awarded the “Distinguished Service Award,” by the University of Missouri Alumni Association which is the highest award bestowed upon a University of Missouri alum.
